You may have heard or done some casual reading about the benefits and uses of radiant barrier. IT’s becoming a topic of discussion among more and more homeowners interested in saving dollars off their energy bill while reducing the amount of wear and tear on their HVAC systems.
Radiant barrier works because it deflects radiant heat back to its source, preventing it from infiltrating a cooler space. The product is comprised of 99% aluminum baked around a scrim of woven polyester. Lightweight and thin, radiant barrier is sold on rolls about 3.5′ in length. There are tiny perforations in the foil to allow moisture to escape from the air and prevent condensation buildup.
